Physics 212 Lecture: "Kinetic Theory of Gases."
Jan 14, 1998
- Pressure, volume, temperature are macroscopic properties of a gas
- The gas is composed of tiny molecules, each of microscopic mass
and size, but large velocity
- The kinetic theory of gases starts with the microscopic
and derives the macroscopic quantities
- One result: the average molecular speed rises with temperature
This lecture discusses material in Chapter 14 of Cutnell and Johnson.
