Physics 212 Lecture: "Heat Engines."
Jan 28, 1998
- The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that
Heat flows spontaneously from objects at higher to
objects at lower temperatures, and not the reverse.
- A heat engine converts heat to work.
- Steam engines are examples of heat engines, but are
very inefficient because they waste most of the input
energy in boiling water.
This lecture discusses material in Chapter 15 of Cutnell and Johnson.
