Mathematics

• Physics expresses relationships between phenomena in mathematical language. There are some basic mathematical tools which you must be able to use in order to pass this course.
• You must know how to use scientific notation. See Appendix A in your textbook.
• You must know some basic geometry; see Appendix E in your textbook.
• You must be able to solve algebraic problems with
  • one equation with one unknown
  • two equations with two unknowns
  • the quadratic formula
  See Appendix C.
• You must understand basic trigonometry, including the sine, cosine, and tangent functions.
• You must be able to use your calculator properly and efficiently.
